An outpost of Mama Shelter, the French brand of designer-budget hotels, is set to open in London after global group Accor acquired a 35% stake in the business.

The new partnership will give Mama Shelter access to Accor’s distribution network, which comprises 3,600 hotels in 92 countries, and enable the brand to expand from its current portfolio of five hotels to around 20 over the next five years.

Created six years ago by the Trigano family (Jérémie, Benjamin and Serge) and entrepreneur Michel Reybier, Mama Shelter hotels feature interiors from Philippe Stark, including exposed concrete walls and blackboard ceilings with graffiti. A vibrant restaurant and bar scene in the group’s hotels features menus with an input from three-Michelin-starred chef Alain Senderens.

Mama Shelter is currently located in Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux and Istanbul, with a sixth property scheduled to open in Los Angeles in February 2015. Further launches are planned for London, Lille, Zurich, Mexico City, Seoul, Amsterdam, Barcelona, New York, as well as at a second location in Paris.

Jérémie Trigano, general manager of Mama Shelter, said: “We are pleased and proud to welcome Accor alongside us. Its presence will allow Mama to benefit from a major international platform and to share our philosophy with an even greater tribe.”
