Gleneagles appoints Paul Heery from the Connaught as new GM
Paul Heery, formerly hotel operations manager at the Connaught hotel in London, has been appointed general manager of Gleneagles hotel in Auchterarder, Perthshire.
He takes over this month from Bernard Murphy, who moves up to managing director of the five-red-AA star, 232-bedroom resort following the announcement that Patrick Elsmie would be stepping down from that role. Elsmie has worked at Glenagles since joining as resident manager in 1986.
Originally from Ireland, Heery has previously worked at the Merrion hotel in Dublin, and Ritz Carlton properties in Washington DC, New York and California.
The appointment is the first time in around 30 years that the general manager has been recruited having never worked at Gleneagles before.
Murphy said: "On behalf of everyone at the resort, I am truly delighted to welcome Paul to Gleneagles. He brings with him a wealth of experience in world leading service, gained in properties which share our passion for creating unforgettable guest experiences. I look forward to working with Paul to drive standards of service here at Gleneagles every-higher, and know that he will be a very valuable addition to the team."
It has been a significant year for Gleneagles, having hosted the Ryder Cup in September as well as celebrate its 90th anniversary.
