Turnover at the Goring down, but pre-tax profit up

Turnover at London's Goring hotel during the year to 31 March 2014 fell by 0.9% to £11.7m, due to comparisons with the boom Olympic year.

However, pre-tax profit at the five-red-AA-star, 69-bedroom property increased by 5.4% to £1.2m, according to the hotel's latest accounts lodged at Companies House.

Business during the previous year, which encompassed both the Olympics and Paralympic Games, grew by 6.5%.

The directors' report noted that the hotel is due to undertake an extensive refurbishment of the front hall which will result in lower income this year, although the investment is expected to provide a boost in business in the long-term.

It also highlighted a increase in number of staff druing the reporting period from 156 to 162, with annual emplyment costs standing at £4.1m, "reflecting the hotel's continued commitment to quality and service".

The Goring hotel, which played host to Kate Middleton and her family the night before the Royal Wedding in April 2011, has remained the in the ownership of the Goring family since opening in 1910.
