French hotelier Jean-Louis Costes to come to London

Fashionable French hotelier Jean-Louis Costes is to launch a 40-bedroom hotel in London in partnership with Cadogan Estate.

One Sloane Gardens (pictured), an apartment block on the corner of Sloane Square, will be redeveloped as a hotel, with the opening scheduled for 2016.

Costes is well known for creating the Hôtel Costes on the Rue Saint-Honaré, which has been praised for its exuberant and glamorous interior and is frequented by the fashion and entertainment sectors. He also operates two restaurants: L'Avenue on Avenue Montaigne and Costes Le Restaurant.

Hugh Seaborn, chief executive of Cadogan, one of London's largest landowners, with 93 acres in Kensington and Chelsea, said it was crucial to team up with an experienced and skilled operator who "shares our passion for creating a destination that is truly exceptional and inspiring".

As well as operating the hotel, Costes will be responsible for conceiving the style, which intends to reflect "an elegance and individual spirit", as well as combining "a private and intimate feeling with the distinguished and historic pedigree of the Sloane Square Conservation area". The hotel, which is is yet to reveal details of its public spaces, is expected to be quite different from Hotel Costes.

Cadogan is the owner of two other hotels in London - the Cadogan, on Sloane Street, which is currently undergoing a £28m renovation and will reopen in 2016 as a 54-bedroom property under the management of Belmond; and No 11 Cadogan Gardens.

It is currently developing a new neighbourhood restaurant in Sloane Street, which is due to open at the end of the year, as well as a new café/restaurant at Duke of York Square. Cadogan will be shortly begin its search for operators of both outlets.
