Ottolenghi restaurant and deli headed for Spitalfields

Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi have announced plans to open a new Ottolenghi restaurant and deli in Spitalfields in late March.

The 70-cover restaurant on Artillery Lane will open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and will feature a long dine-at bar, as seen at the pair's Nopi restaurant in Soho, and cake and salad displays. For the first time, it will also include a new ‘grab and go' fridge.

Ottolenghi and Tamimi will oversee the food featuring bold flavours and colours and produce from the Mediterranean, North Africa and Middle East. They will also encourage their chefs to be creative with the menu through regular brainstorming meetings and tastings.

A selection of salads is available at lunch as well as main dishes including toasted aubergine with hazelnut pesto, sautéed onion, chilli and mint; mixed grean beans and peas with confit garlic, nigella seeds and rosemary; and lamb kofta with pine nuts, cumin, herbs and sundried tomato with saffron yoghurt sauce.

The dinner will typically offer grilled sea bass with fried fish crumbs, green mango salad and spicy peanuts; yellow fin, line-caught seared tuna, wrapped in nori and panko with wasabi cream; and char-grilled fillet of English beef with sweet coriander-mustard sauce.

Sommelier Heidi Knudsen has compiled a wine list to complement the food and introduce more unusual natural wines.

Architect Alex Meitlis has designed the space, using the brand's typical red and white colours, while artist Tamar Blum-Zidon has been commissioned to create a sculptured artwork for the new restaurant space.
