Ottolenghi co-founder to open new London restaurant

A new Middle-Eastern street-food style restaurant from Ottolenghi co-founder Noam Bar (pictured), named Sesame, is to open in London this April.

The all-day Covent Garden site will be inspired by the market stalls and street food grills found across the Mediterranean and Middle East, in cities such as Istanbul and Jerusalem. The menu will focus on dishes such as pitta breads stuffed with grilled meat, alongside crunchy vegetables and traditional flavours such as tahini sauce.

There will also be a selection of salads that are intended to work well as full meals, as well as side dishes.

The new venture has support from Bar's former colleagues at London-based delicatessen group Ottolenghi, Sami Tamimi and Yotam Ottolenghi.

Bar said: "We researched to find the absolute best dishes from around the Mediterranean, and mainly looked to recreate the flavours of our childhood. These sunny, warm and vibrant flavours are what Sesame is all about."

First founded in 2002, there are now three Ottolenghi delis, including in Islington and Notting Hill, while Ottolenghi himself also opened separate venture Nopi, in London's Soho, in March 2011.
