Starwood Capital Group puts 19 hotels up for sale

Starwood Capital Group, which has spent the last two years accumulating a treasure trove of UK hotels, is putting 19 of its properties up for sale.

The US private equity company has appointed Christie + Co to market the portfolio, which is made up of 11 hotels within De Vere Venues, seven Principal Hayley hotels and the Oxford Witney, a Four Pillars hotel, with a price tag of £180m.

According to Estates Gazette, the hotels could be converted for alternative use, possibly into retirement homes or residential properties.

It appears that Starwood is consolidating the sprawling collection of hotels it has built up since acquiring the 23-strong Principal Hayley group for £356m in 2013. Last year it went on to buy De Vere Venues for £231m and Four Pillars Hotels for around £90m.
