New GM for Idle Rocks and St Mawes hotels

Anthony Chapman has been appointed general manager of the Idle Rocks and St Mawes hotels in St Mawes, Cornwall.

He will take over the day-to-day running from Tim House of the 20-bedroom Idle Rocks and oversee the renovation of the St Mawes hotel, which will launch in the spring following the transformation from a 14-bedroom to a seven-bedroom property.

Recently Chapman has run his own advisory business, the Hotel Helper, providing management and sales and marketing support to properties such as Stapleford Park country house hotel and golf club in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire.

For nearly four years until 2013 he was general manger of the Old Quay House hotel in Fowey, Cornwall.

David Richards, owner of the two hotels and previously chairman of Aston Martin, said he was looking to appoint "a skilled hotelier" who understood customers' requirements for a stylish and luxurious retreat.

"Anthony's broad experience of the luxury UK hotel market, coupled with his thorough understanding of driving successful Cornish boutique hotels, made him the perfect candidate for the role.''

Chapman added: "I look forward to working with the existing team to continue and improve on the exceptional and unique experience we provide our guests, whilst further cementing St. Mawes' reputation as a desirable Cornish location for visitors and village regulars."

In addition to Chapman's appointment, Debbie Siobhan Warner has joined the team from Jamie Oliver's Fifteen, Cornwall, to manage the St Mawes hotel following its opening.

Richards and his wife Karen acquired the Idle Rocks in 2010, closing it in 2012 for a major renovation before re-launching itin 2013. They added the St Mawes hotel last year.
