Wright Brothers to open in South Kensington

Seafood specialists the Wright Brothers have announced plans to open a new restaurant in South Kensington this summer.

Wright Brothers South Kensington will occupy the former site of La Bouchée, on Old Brompton Road, when it opens this June.

Its menu will feature a selection of locally cultivated oysters and fruits-de-mer alongside a regularly changing specials board.

The head chef will be Philip Coulter, who has moved across from Wright Brothers Oyster & Porter House near London Bridge after five years and previously worked at Racine in Knightsbridge.

Brady Williams has designed the interiors, which takes inspiration from the laid-back oyster house culture of the Wright Brothers' Borough restaurant.

The venture will include a private dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows and a fireplace as well an independent bar, accessible from the street and serving selected wines and cocktails, and ‘pound a pop' oysters, cultivated from the company's Duchy Oyster Farm, during happy hour.

Wright Brother, Robin Hancock, commented: "We have always wanted to open in South Kensington, it feels like that little corner of Paris where, we first began to dream about re-popularising the oyster in London."

His business partner and brother-in-law Ben Wright added: "In the UK, an oyster is still seen as just an oyster but there are a whole variety, with different provenances and their own distinctive tastes and flavours that we can't wait to introduce to the residents of South Kensington."

The pair launched Wright Brothers in 2002 in a bid to revive the UK's love for the oyster. They cultivate more than 14 million native and pacific oysters at the Duchy Oyster Farm, part of the private estate of HRH The Prince of Wales on the Helford River in Cornwall.

The company also has a thriving wholesale business, supplying over 150 restaurants and chefs across the UK.
