Unilever and LACA launch the 2015 Big School Bake Off Competition

Unilever Food Solutions and LACA are calling for entries from school cooks and chefs across the UK and Ireland for the 2015 Big School Bake Off competition.

The competition was launched in 2014 with the aim of recognising and rewarding the great talent and passion in school kitchens. Expert judges selected eighteen entrants to take part in the semi-finals at the LACA conference and Jo Wheatley TV Bake Off winner joined the judging team, to help select the final eight contestants.

Sarah Medlicott, kitchen manager at Torbay School in Paignton was crowned the 2014 winner with her take on a Victoria sandwich, and commented: "I was absolutely thrilled to be crowned Big School Bake Off Winner and I'll definitely be entering again in a bid to retain my title."

James Allred, channel marketing manager, Unilever Food Solutions said: "We were delighted with the standard of entries we received in the competition's first year. This year we want it to be even bigger and better. Baking is a great way to get the whole school involved in cooking. Not only does it get the school caterers using their key skills, it also encourages children to take a greater interest in cooking and the food they eat.

"These past 12 months have been challenging for school caterers. The Big School Bake Off competition celebrates their enthusiasm and commitment and demonstrates to the whole industry what fantastic talent and passion there is in our school kitchens."
