Hospitality jobs campaign heads to Nottingham

Set to take place on 12 March, the event will see hoteliers, restaurateurs and caterers from across Nottinghamshire pledge job opportunities, apprenticeships and work placements for young job seekers.

This is the third Big Hospitality Conversation this year, with Bristol and Tottenham being previous hosts.

Nottinghamshire has a visitor economy of around £1.5bn annually and Nottingham city has one of the largest labour pools in the UK at 887,000 people.

Ufi Ibrahim (pictured), CEO of the BHA, said: "Nottingham is gaining a reputation for great customer satisfaction and enjoys widespread appeal to both domestic and overseas tourists. For young people living in Nottingham a career in hospitality offers the chance to get involved in a dynamic, growing and competitive industry with great prospects for growth."

Jacqui Allum, director of the Big Hospitality Conversation, added: "Hospitality is a growing industry that is consistently resilient to economic fluctuations and we're looking forward to striking up a conversation with young people from the local area who are seeking a new career path or job opportunity."

Hospitality and tourism now accounts for over 10% of the UK's workforce and is the fourth largest employing industry in the UK, with two in five employees under the age of 30.

This is the 24th Big Hospitality Conversation to date. There have been over 35,000 job opportunities so far created and the campaign aims to create up to 60,000 by 2016. Future venues include Sheffield, Newcastle, Swansea, Belfast, Lambeth, Cardiff, Bournemouth, Leeds, Birmingham, Exeter, and the Isle of Wight.

John Forrest, chairman of the Big Hospitality Conversation, said: "Hospitality is a vibrant, growing industry with a lot to offer. There is a huge pool of talent in the 16-24 age group and we are committed to helping raise awareness amongst young people, offering them significant opportunities to join and develop their careers within the hospitality industry."
