Turtle Bay to open Cheltenham restaurant

Caribbean-style restaurant group Turtle Bay is to open a new restaurant in Cheltenham this spring.

The new site, which will open in late March, will be in the town centre on the corner of Pittville Street and Albion Street.

The 6,000 sq ft venue, the former Embassy nightclub, will have 175 covers and employ a total of 60 staff.

The conversion of the site will represent a £1m investment from the business.

Founder Ajith Jayawickrema said: "This is an exciting step for Turtle Bay and we are especially looking forward to transporting Cheltenham diners to the Caribbean without the need for a plane ticket!

Jayawickrema founded Turtle Bay in 2010. The Cheltenham restaurant will be its 15th site.

Typical dishes on the menu at Turtle Bay in Cheltenham will include: Trini doubles (two bara roti, curried Trini chickpeas, cucumber chutney and coconut shavings); jerk chicken (12 spice & herb jerk marinade and grilled, sour orange chutney, Caribbean slaw, rice 'n' peas, sweet potato mash); Blue Mountain curried goat (marinated goat, potatoes & carrots, rice 'n' peas, sweet onion chutney, flatbread).
