Fu Manchu dim sum and cocktail bar to open in Clapham

A new late-night dim sum and cocktail bar named Fu Manchu is set to open in London's Clapham North in May.

Named after the Chinese villain in the 20th century novels of British writer Sax Rohmer (and later films and comic books featuring the same character), the bar will be situated within an old railway arch, on the site of former bar Arch 635.

A project from an anonymous group of investors who already run a collection of bars across the capital, the new site will open from 5pm to midnight from Monday to Wednesday, until 1am Thursdays, 3am Saturdays, and 11pm Sundays.

It will serve cocktails with names such as the Kiss of Death and Mancho's Mind Control, using Chinese tea and Asian spice flavours.

The food menu will include a range of steamed dim sum, served in wicker baskets in sharing-size portions. The bar will also host live music nights, DJ sets, and will turn into a late-night dancing venue after the evening dinner service.

The interior has been designed around the theme of a "Victorian opium den with a modern, graphic edge", including with raw brickwork, a raised seating area, seating booths in "hidden corners", and a series of dramatic light installations created by lighting designed Louisa Smurthwaite.
