BaxterStorey wins multi-million pound city battle over UBS

BaxterStorey has won a multi-million pound deal to deliver food and front of house services for UBS at its London estate, ousting existing supplier Restaurant Associates.

It won the hard-fought, five-year contract as UBS plans its transition to its new facility at 5 Broadgate located in the City of London, scheduled to take place in the latter part of 2016.

The contract will start in June, with BaxterStorey providing the full range of catering, hospitality, vending and fine-dining services. Meanwhile, sister firm Benugo will introduce retail and coffee bars at the flagship venue.

The caterer will employ more than 100 staff to deliver services at UBS's existing sites and the Broadgate Circle building.

BaxterStorey's guest services arm Portico had been working with UBS since 2005, but now the caterer has secured the deal for all hospitality services.

Industry consultant Chris Stern said it was a significant win for BaxterStorey as caterers increasingly lock horns over City contracts.

"There's a lot of activity in the City at the moment," he said. "Many firms are reviewing options and it's a hard fought battle for caterers. This is mainly because there's nobody new in the market, so the likes of Restaurant Associates and BaxterStorey are coming up against each other increasingly, as they're the two big hitters in the city."

WSH chairman Alastair Storey said it was an exciting time for the firm to be working with UBS.

He added: "Having worked with UBS for a number of years, we have great affinity with the value they place on their people and environment and we are very proud to be working in partnership with them."

Wayne Tanner, UBS executive director responsible for Integrated Facility Management said: "In conjunction with Benugo, [BaxterStorey and Portico's] business proposition is a compelling balance of industry leading experience, forward thinking catering & client service solutions as well as commercial competitiveness."
