Mint Group to open sixth London venue

Entertainment and hospitality venue management firm Mint Group is to open its sixth venue in London - a Japanese-Latin raw bar and grill called Mommi.

The new site is scheduled to open in early June on Clapham High Street.

The 85-cover, 2,750 sq ft restaurant will offer a market-style menu of ceviche and Nikkei chirashi sushi-style small plates made for sharing, with dishes created by executive chef Paul Sowden.

Signature dishes, some of which are cooked on the Robata grill, include: sea bass with sweet potato, olive oil, choclo, burnt yuzu dressing and red amaranth; pork belly with sweet potato and salsa criolla sanguche; and shrimp and mushroom "salad" with spicy lemon dressing and Japanese purple potato salad.

Dishes are priced from £3 - £12 with the majority of the menu being gluten and dairy-free

Mommi will also offer a list of South American wines as well as Japanese craft beers, cocktails, and house-infused pisco sours from £8.50.

The restaurant will also have an in-house sugar cane juicer - thought to be a London first.

The interiors of Mommi are being designed by Mister Important Design (whose recent projects include W Hotel San Diego, Gitane restaurant, and Hard Rock hotel in Palm Springs). Photographer Ben Watts, brother of British actress Naomi Watts, will exhibit a collection of his photography throughout the venue.

Meanwhile, Melbourne-based street artist Rone will create a mural on a feature wall of the restaurant.

Music will also be a key feature of the venue, with playlists curated by co-founder of music festival Lovebox, Ross Clarke, as well as specialist DJs set to take up residence.

Olly Bengough and Alex Rutherford founded Mint Group in early 2000. In addition to Mommi, Mint Group runs live music venue Koko in Camden, Mary Janes in the City, Elk bar in Fulham, and Bison & Bird in Clapham.
