Gauthier removes foie gras from menu after protests

London restaurant Gauthier has taken foie gras off its menu after campaigners repeatedly staged protests at the Soho site.

Alexis Gauthier (pictured), chef patron, was convinced by London Vegan Action Group to stop serving the controversial delicacy after they visited the restaurant on three separate occasions.

Gauthier told the Evening Standard that he himself had quit eating foie gras many years ago.

"I never really totally removed it from my menu - being a French restaurant and classically trained. I did it for myself but didn't do it for my customers," he said. "I had three visits from the London Vegan Action Group, they convinced me.

London Vegan Action Group's most recent protest was captured on video, posted to its Facebook page, which showed campaigners carrying placards and megaphones while blockading the entrance to the restaurant.

The group is expected to stage a protest at Pierre Gagnaire and Mourad Mazouz's Sketch in Mayfair on Saturday. The two-Michelin starred restaurant features a dish using a grilled slice of duck foie gras and foie gras lime terrine on it's a la carte menu.
