Mitchells and Butlers sees revenues rise 9.5%

Mitchells and Butlers has grown revenue by 9.5% to £1.1b, driven by an improvement in food sales.

In its half year results to 11 April 2015, the pub and restaurant group which operates brands including All Bar One, Toby Carvery and Harvester said that the market remained challenging despite growing consumer confidence.

Operating profit in the period was up 4.1% at £153m, while like for like food sales were up 2.9%.

Chief executive Alistair Darby said: "We have made good progress in the first half with continued strong food volume growth driving improved sales. Our Orchid integration plan is being successfully executed; the office is now closed and the first sites have been converted to our brands with encouraging sales uplifts.

"The market in which we operate remains challenging despite growing consumer confidence. However, we are confident that our business is well placed to capitalise on opportunities in the market and deliver future shareholder value."
