Hotel du Vin to open in Stratford-upon-Avon

Hotel du Vin has confirmed that it is to open its 17th property, within a Georgian building in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Nick Halliday, chief operating officer of the boutique brand, had previously told The Caterer that Stratford-upon-Avon was one of its key target markets, along with Oxford and London.

The 48-bedroom hotel is set to open at the end of 2016, following the transformation of two Georgian, Grade II-listed townhouses, owned by the Stratford Town Trust, in Rother Street. It will be the fourth property to be developed by the Malmaison Hotel du Vin Group in the last 18 months, following the conversion of Cannizaro House in Wimbledon to a Hotel du Vin, and the launch of Malmaison in Dundee and Hotel du Vin in St Andrews.

Set to create 60 jobs, the hotel will feature the French-inspired Bistro du Vin, a banqueting room for up to 80 diners and a private dining room.

Paul Roberts, chief executive of Malmaison Hotel du Vin, described the brand as "a perfect fit" for the town. "This development represents Malmaison Hotel du Vin's significant growth prospects and commitment to deliver an exceptional customer experience in stunning surroundings."

Roberts has recently moved into the chief executive position from his previous role as the group's finance director, following the promotion of Gary Davis to chairman.

Helen Munro, chief executive of Stratford Town Trust, added: "We are confident Hotel Du Vin, with its track record of individual prestige hotels in historic buildings, will be a great addition to Stratford."

KSL, the US-based owner of Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, is currently in the process of offloading the two brands, having acquired them two years ago for around £200m. There are 13 Malmaison and 16 Hotel du Vin properties.
