ESS Support Services wins £16.9m defence contract
ESS Support Services Worldwide, part of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has won a £16.9m, three-year contract with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation to provide services at the new Defence College of Technical Training in Lyneham.
This new contract will see ESS delivering catering services - including formal/informal events and functions - mess and hotel services, cleaning, waste management, stores and logistics, motor transport, personnel and administrative support. These services will be delivered to the 2,500 people that will be on site on a daily basis by early 2016.
ESS will also be delivering a range of retail outlets including a shop and cafés. With over 150 ESS staff to be based at the new Defence College of Technical Training, it is aiming to recruit from the local area.
Previously a long established RAF site, the development of the state of the art Defence College of Technical Training will see significant new build and some refurbishment to create training workshop areas, classrooms and laboratories, as well as military accommodation, sports, recreation and welfare facilities.
The ESS team is currently working alongside the construction team that is redeveloping the training site, to achieve a phased handover period in the first nine months of the contract.
A Defence Infrastructure Organisation spokesperson said: "We are pleased to announce this partnership with ESS. This new college at Lyneham will ensure our armed forces have the best possible training environment with modern accommodation in which to live and learn. We selected ESS following an in-depth tendering process, which included a number of quality suppliers. Their submission bid fully met the requirements as laid out in the evaluation criteria. We look forward to working with them."
The Defence College of Technical Training at Lyneham will train service personnel in a variety of specialist areas including; aeronautical, electrical, mechanical and marine engineering, and communication and information systems.
