Chef Simon Hulstone to launch new hot dog restaurant

Chef Simon Hulstone is to open a new premium hot dog and craft beer restaurant named the Kennel, in Torquay, Devon, on 5 June.

Jon Barrett, previously at Hulstone's Michelin-starred restaurant the Elephant, will be head chef at the new site, located on the town's harbour-side, according to local venue operator Lifestyle Hospitality Group.

Hulstone (pictured) will oversee the menu, which will offer classic and new versions of the street-food-friendly American favourite, sourced from high-quality ingredients.

Hulstone is chef-proprietor at the Elephant, Torquay, and a regular competitor in high-end chef competitions. For this new venture he has taken inspiration from stints working on a Santa Monica beach in a food truck and various high-end, celebrity pop-ups around the UK.

Commenting on the new project, the he said: "The casual dining culture in Torquay has diversified immensely over the last few years, with the customer experience and exceptional produce being at the heart of it.

Hulstone is not the only high-profile operator to plan a high-end hot dog site in recent months. Marissa Hermer, the wife of Boujis nightclub and Bumpkin brasserie founder Matt Hermer, is also set to launch Top Dog, an American-inspired site serving organic meat and rapeseed-cooked fries, in central London this year.
