Jake Egberts, hotel asset manager at Topland, dies at 46

Jake Egberts, hotel asset manager at private investment company Topland, has died at the age of 46, 11 months after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

Topland is the owner of an extensive portfolio of hotels including the five-AA-star Royal Crescent hotel in Bath, the eight-strong Hallmark group and Menzies collection of 14 properties.

After studying at the Maastricht School of Management in Holland and initially working in food and beverage management at the Langham Hilton, London and Selsdon Park hotel, near Croydon, Egberts moved to the advisory side of the business. He joined PKF in 2000 before moving to Christie + Co as associate director. After being seconded to Lloyd's Bank, he joined JLL as senior vice president.

Egberts joined Topland in 2014, where his personality endeared him to employers and colleagues alike. In a statement, Topland said: "There will be many colleagues with stories of Jake, and all of them will be good. Jake had an infectious personality, and an outstanding work ethic. His tenacity, commitment, dedication and above all his impeccable fairness and integrity were written into his DNA and it was these traits that made him appreciated by so many.

"He was a model colleague to all he worked with, a friend to so many and above all a great husband and father to three wonderful children."

Egberts' funeral will be held on 19 June.
