Third London Hoxton hotel to open in Southwark

Hoxton, the design-led budget brand, is to open its third hotel in London after planning permission was granted for the development of a 192-bedroom property in Southwark.

Located in Blackfriars Road, the hotel has been given the green light by Southwark Council to be built on land currently occupied by the soon-to-be-demolished Wedge House.

Developer Derwent London is partnering with private equity group Ennismore Capital, the owner of Hoxton, to create the hotel, which will occupy the lower six floors of a 14-storey mixed-use scheme to include offices.

Due to open in 2018, the Southwark hotel will join existing Hoxton hotels in Shoredtich and Holborn.

Soho House will operate a restaurant on the ground floor of the new hotel, as well as a bar on the top floor. The Hoxton Grill at the Hoxton Shoreditch and Chicken Shop and Hubbard & Bell at Hoxton Holborn are also run by Soho House.

The group's first overseas hotel, a 111-property in Amsterdam, will open on 6 July, with further international launches planned for Williamsburg (New York) and Paris.

  • Hoxton is to launch its first standalone restaurant venture in partnership with Soho House later this month. Egg Break will offer an egg-focused menu comprised of five "dirty" baps and five healthy dishes. The 80-seat restaurant, in Uxbridge Street, Notting Hill will be open from 7am to 5pm.
