Chinese visa policy welcomed by BHA

The government's announcement that it will begin a pilot to improve visa provision for Chinese visitors to the UK has been welcomed by the British Hospitality Association (BHA).

In a joint venture with Belgium, the scheme will mean potential Chinese visitors can apply for UK and Schengen visas at application centres in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai.

As part of the UK China Visa Alliance the BHA has been campaigning to improve access for Chinese visitors. It says UK businesses lose £1.2b a year because the country attracts fewer Chinese tourists than our major European neighbours.

BHA chief executive Ufi Ibrahim said: "By 2023, China will be the largest outbound tourism economy in the world so it is important that the UK makes every effort to welcome the Chinese traveller into our country.
