Sudbury House relaunches after extensive transformation

The 49-bedroom Sudbury House hotel in Faringdon, Oxfordshire, will relaunch today following a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Located in a Grade II-listed Georgian building, which was once owned by the BBC Controller of Music Sir William Glock, the hotel has been undergoing improvements since being acquired from Cranfield University by businessman Roger Hancox for around £2m two years ago.

General manager Ulrike le Roux has overseen the transformation of all the bedrooms and public areas.

The hotel now includes Restaurant 56, a 28-cover fine dining restaurant, which launched in February 2014, and the new 160-cover, all-day dining Magnolia Brasserie.

Executive head chef is Andrew Scott, who previously retained a Michelin star at the Curlew restaurant in Bodiam, East Sussex. His dishes in Restaurant 56 include pigeon carpaccio, white truffle custard, Madeira jelly, salt-baked Jerusalem artichokes; and roasted medallion of monkfish, curried red lentils, cauliflower fondant, lemongrass and ginger sauce.

Sudbury House, previously a member of the Best Western consortium, is now run as an independent property. It is sister property to Llangoed Hall in Brecon, Powys.
