Hotel allows guests to kill the internet
The Lanesborough's sister hotel in Germany has introduced bedroom technology that enables guests to kill the internet.
Guests staying at the Villa Stéphanie spa resort are able to flick a silver switch located next to their bed, which activates a copper grid surrounding each room, blocking wireless internet signals.
The hotel is part of the Oetker Collection, which also runs the newly renovated Lanesborough hotel that will reopen next month.
Oetker Collection chief executive Frank Marrenbach told the Financial Times that at some point half of guest had opted to block the internet.
He added: "We all need to learn more how to deal with this in a healthy way. In the 1950s, nobody was bothered about smoking because everybody smoked. Now when you see people smoking these days it comes across as vulgar.
"It is not a sign of smartness to constantly look at incoming messages. This is not smart, this is stupid. Smart is to devote time when it is time to do so. Smart is to read things in a profound way."
It is believed to be the first hotel to offer the service, which blocks 96% of wireless signals.
