Springboard and Delaware North celebrate 25 and 100 years

Industry charity Springboard has celebrated its 25th anniversary alongside foodservice firm Delaware North, who celebrated its centenary.

Last night over 800 guests attended the Silver Diamond Ball at London's Wembley Stadium, with dishes from Mark Reynolds of Delaware North and alumni from Springboard's FutureChef contest scheme, which celebrates the skills of young chefs.

Over £100,000 was also raised for the Springboard charity, which seeks to help young and struggling people into work, and champion the role that the hospitality, leisure and tourism sectors can play in giving people of any age a viable career.

Springboard was first launched in 1990, in London's 3 Denmark Place, and also offers careers advice, development programmes, mentoring schemes and teaching resources.

Chief executive Anne Pierce said: "Who would have known that 25 years down the line we would be here commemorating this silver anniversary milestone?"

She added: "All of Springboard's activities make a difference. The world may have changed a great deal since 1990, but Springboard's underlying goal remains exactly the same: to promote the hospitality industry and to get people into jobs."

She continued that she hoped Springboard would continue to make a difference over the next 25 years to come.

Founded In 1915 by the Jacobs brothers as a popcorn cart outside a baseball stadium, Delaware North is still privately owned and family-run. Many of its contracts are over 50 years long, with the longest being 86 years. It operates sites across the UK, including in the airport, sports, and leisure sectors.

The Silver Diamond Ball was also in partnership with DRP Group. Diamond sponsors were Core Recruitment and Zenith Hygiene.
