Plans for new hotel in Oxford as part of £30m regeneration project
Plans for a new four-star hotel in Oxford as part of £30m regeneration project in the city have been revealed by Dominvs Group.
The property investment company owns the vacant Cooper Callas site situated on the corner of Paradise Street and St Thomas' Street in the city centre and plans to build a 150-bedroom hotel along with a restaurant, deli and new microbrewery. It is speculated that the property will be branded as a Hotel Indigo, although this has not been confirmed by InterContinental Hotels Group (owner of the Indigo brand) or Dominvs.
Part of the site was formerly the Brewery Gate pub and was associated with the old Morrell's Brewery, most of which has already been redeveloped into flats. The Cooper Callas building, which has been unused for several years, will be demolished.
The scheme includes courtyard spaces that would be accessible for the local community and would also open up access for the public to Wareham Stream.
Dominvs Group said the investment would help boost the local economy and contribute to the expansion of Oxford's tourism industry.
It will be looking to partner with local colleges and training providers to provide apprenticeships for students across a range of construction and hospitality courses. The plans are expected to provide 280 jobs during the construction phase, along with 80 permanent jobs within the hotel once the development is complete.
Currently the project is in the pre-application phase, prior to submitting formal plans to Oxford City Council, which has identified a need for increased hotel accommodation in the city.
Preetpal Ahluwalia, hospitality portfolio director of Dominvs Group, said: "Oxford is a city with a unique architectural character and this has guided our designs for the building. We are committed to the long term investment in Oxford and are excited about the prospect of delivering a scheme of real architectural value to the area, while also contributing to the expansion of Oxford's tourism industry and the wider regeneration of the area."
