Aramark employees recognised for volunteer work
Two Aramark employees from the UK strand of the foodservice business have been recognised for their volunteering efforts in the company's annual Volunteer Awards.
Ashley Allen, a general manager at one of Aramark's defence sites in Hampshire, and Witek Sypniewski, executive assistant at Aramark's UK head office in Farnborough, Hampshire, were recognised for the ways they support local community projects.
The awards are open to all of Aramark's 270,000 employees globally and 26 winners were chosen this year.
Allen has been recognised for her ongoing volunteering at Treloar school and college near Alton, Hampshire, which is a specialist provider of education and independence skills for physically disabled young people.
She has led health awareness days and activities during the global Nutrition and Hydration Week, arranged field trips for students and raised funds through sponsored walks and school fairs.
The judging panel said her work has provided hundreds of children with health and wellness information and education as well as much-needed funding.
Sypniewski's volunteering focuses on his home city of London, where he works with Tower Hamlets Friends and Neighbours, a charity which supports isolated and vulnerable older people by providing a team of befriending volunteers.
He has visited an elderly lady called Ana since 2013, once a week, providing friendship and support. He is also volunteering for Speaking English with Confidence, a network of conversation clubs across London which helps people improve their English. The judging panel praised him for providing a true example of Aramark service.
Andrew Main, chief executive officer for Aramark in the UK, said: "I am so incredibly proud of Witek and Ashley. Our mission is to deliver experiences that enrich and nourish lives, and there are few better examples of this in action than our inspirational and dedicated Aramark Volunteer Award winners."
Since the inception of the Aramark Volunteer Awards, 375 company volunteers have been recognised. Winners across the world are selected based on factors including longevity, commitment and the impact of their volunteering.
