Bernardi's opening delayed until September

The Bernardi brothers have revealed that their new site will now open in September. The pair have also released menu details for the upcoming Italian restaurant.

The all-day 120-cover site in London's Marylebone is set within a Victorian house on the corner of Seymour Place and Seymour Street and comes from Cubitt House group founders Gabriel and Marcello Bernardi.

Originally slated to open in July, the restaurant is now scheduled to open on 8 September.

It has also been confirmed that British chef Sabrina Gidda, former Restaurants Associates chef and twice-finalist of the Roux Scholarship, has joined the project as head chef, taking a key role in designing the new menus. These will focus on classic Italian-style food from carefully-sourced, mainly British ingredients.

Typical dishes will include antipasti of rose veal tonnato; market fish crudo to share; tarragon gnocchi; rabbit ragu, broad beans and pancetta; orecchiette with n'duja, romanesco broccoli and basil; plus salted cod, white polenta, and peperonata.

There will also be main courses such as duck, cime de rapa and pistachios; rare-breed pork, preserved lemon, clams and fregola.

The open kitchen, which will have its own bread and pizza oven, will also prepare to-order pizzettes of veal sausage, sage and chilli; potato, scamorza and red onion; plus cicchetti plates with pea and watercress arancini; and olive, white anchovy and duck egg crostini.

Great emphasis has been placed on the design of the two-storey site itself, which will feature an open-plan seating area with booths and banquettes, using muted greys, black and accent colours, plus natural woods, stone and textiles, in a bid to give a relaxed yet high-end, vintage-style Italian feel.

The room has also been designed to let in a lot of natural light, and there will also be an outdoor seating area, and 20-capacity bar serving Italian-inspired cocktails.
