Zuma London to take over menu of Idle Rocks hotel

Japanese-style Knightsbridge restaurant Zuma is to take over the menu at Cornwall hotel the Idle Rocks for two nights this August.

For 21 and 22 August, Zuma will decamp to the coastal town of St Mawes, and use Cornish produce to create its usual modern Japanese "izakaya"-style menu. It will be the first time that Zuma has collaborated with a hotel.

Dishes will include Zuma mainstays such as sliced yellowtail with green chilli relish, ponzu and pickled garlic; marinated black cod wrapped in hoba leaf; and roasted Cornish lobster with green chilli, garlic and hojiso butter.

Idle Rocks co-owner David Richards said: "We are delighted to welcome Zuma to the Idle Rocks for an exciting marriage between traditional coastal culture and contemporary Japanese cuisine. This is the first time ever that Zuma has collaborated with a hotel in the UK, reinforcing Cornwall's culinary credentials. We are excited for the local community and our guests."

The set menu for two on Friday 21 or Saturday 22 costs £95 per person including wine, and rooms at the Idle Rocks start at £200 for two including breakfast, sharing a harbour view room.

First opened in 1913, the Idle Rocks was bought by motor racing entrepreneur David Richard and his wife Karen in 2010. It closed in October 2012 for renovation, reopening in July 2013, with newly-designed interiors from Karen.

Founded by German chef Rainer Becker and Arjun Wainey in 2002, Zuma London is on Raphael Street in Knightsbridge. It is styled on a traditional Japanese "izakaya" bar and has a sushi counter, robata grill, a sake bar, a semi-private dining table, and two private dining rooms seating 12 and 14 respectively, using traditional sunken kotatsu tables.

Becker also opened sister restaurant brand Roka as part of the same group, and both have since expanded internationally. Zuma now has seven sites including in Istanbul, Hong Kong, Dubai, and Miami; while Roka has four sites across London, as well as its Hong Kong base.

The group is also the creators of grill restaurant Oblix, on the 32nd floor of London's Shard building.
