The Bear of Rodborough goes to market

Cotswold Inns and Hotels is to sell its three-AA-star Bear of Rodborough property in Stroud, Gloucestershire.

Colliers International has been appointed to bring the 46-bedroom property to the market for £3.95m. The agent's director, Peter Brunt, said the business had shown "good profits" of £1.9m net turnover under management.

Brunt added: "As the group has expanded, the emphasis has been firmly directed towards the leisure market and, as a result, the Bear has become the odd man out in the portfolio, hence the decision to offer it for sale."

The other seven hotels in the portfolio include the Broadway hotel in Broadway; the Manor House hotel in Moreton in Marsh; and the Close hotel in Tetbury.

The Bear is Grade II listed and a decision is pending on an application submitted to create a bistro and enlarge the kitchen. There is also scope to expand into a large building next to the car park.

The hotel, which sits on the western side of the Cotswolds, was acquired in 1998, having previously been in large corporate ownership. The estate includes staff accommodation.
