High occupancy levels in July for London hotels

London hotels saw high occupancy levels and an increase in demand for July, according to preliminary figures published by STR Global.

Occupancy increased by 2.7% to 88.3% with the average daily rate (ADR) rising by 4.3% to £151.27.

Revenue per available room (revpar) also increased by 7.1% to £133.54.

The increase in room supply of 2.6% was outstripped by the 5.4% increase in demand year-on-year.

According to STR Global analysts, London saw accelerated occupancy and ADR growth following the conclusion of Ramadan (17 July) as hotels capitalised on an influx of visitors from the Middle East.

The company, which provides hotel data, said the start of school holidays in the UK also increased the number of visitors to the capital.

According to STR Global the strength of the US dollar relative to the British pound was likely to have contributed to the rise in US visitors.

It said after a slow first half to 2015, July's demand growth and improved performance indicators point to a stronger second half of the year for London.

STR Global will release its full July results later this month.
