Isle of Skye Brewing and Tom Kitchin launch craft beer

Scottish chef Tom Kitchin and Isle of Skye Brewing Co have joined forces to create a new premium ale called Yer Ben.

Named after Kitchin's grandfather Ben Robinson, the beer combines unique Scottish craft brewing experience with Kitchin's passion for the best Scottish produce and his ‘from nature to plate' philosophy. It was developed to appeal to everyone's taste, with a unique flavour and will be served at Edinburgh gastro-pub the Scran and Scallie, which was opened by Kitchin and fellow Michelin-starred chef Dominic Jack in 2013.

Kitchin, who developed the beer in collaboration with brewers (and former chefs) Pam MacRuary and Mags Mewlands, said; "I'm fanatical about the quality, locality and freshness of the ingredients that go into every dish I serve and I'm no less passionate and committed to knowing all about the origins of the drinks we serve and enjoy.

"My grandfather really inspired me to carefully consider the quality and condition of beer, so I've always worked hard to seek out the very, very best. Since opening The Scran & Scallie in 2013, we have sought out the finest artisan beer producers and The Isle of Skye ales have proved hugely popular.

"To play a part in what went into the product and how it looked and tasted was a real joy for me."

The beer is a smooth, refreshing, golden, creamy craft beer. With a hint of citrus and a slight sweetness, it has a bitter, hoppy finish and has been designed to complement a meal.

Kenny Webster, managing director at Isle of Skye Brewing, added: "Working with Tom felt like a natural fit. He's been part of the process throughout, exploring our home in Skye, working with our brewers, developing the recipe and really immersing himself every step of the way. The final product reflects his taste, personality and passion for Scotland, matched with the expertise of our brewers and the produce we have access to in Skye."

Yer Ben is now available in The Scran & Scallie, on thekitchin.com, in the Isle of Skye Brewing shop, and on skyeale.com in 500ml bottles, priced at £3.35 per bottle or £39.99 for a crate of twelve including, delivery.
