Work to start on £60m five-star Perthshire hotel next year

The development of a £60m five-star hotel and conference complex near Perth will get under way early next year.

After more than a decade of planning, developers have announced that construction on the 21-acre riverside site at Kinfauns will commence in 2016 with the 300-bedroom hotel expected to open by mid-2017.

Project leader, Perthshire-based property developer Joseph Khazaka, said he was "excited" to have reached this stage after such a long journey, as reported by the Dundee Courier.

He said: "It is obviously a big thing, but if I had thought it would take 11 years of my life, I wouldn't have entertained it."

During that period he saw a possible operator go out of business as a result of the recession. He believes the timing is right now with the global economy picking up and the £1b waterfront development in Dundee under way.

His daughter, Lita Khazaka, is the lead architect and has created a relatively low-rise structure which mimics the contours of the hills. It will have a grassed roof, which will be sustainable and aims to blend in with the surrounding countryside.

It will create 300 permanent jobs plus a further 185 indirect posts.
