Know Hospitality launches internships at Richmond hotel in Liverpool

The Richmond hotel Liverpool and Know Hospitality have launched a new training academy to encourage 16- to 18-year-olds to join the hospitality industry.

Know Hospitality is working in partnership with training provider Kaplan Skills and Employment to manage and deliver the internships.

The Richmond, a Grade-II-listed property on Hatton Garden, off Dale Street, will host the Know Hospitality Academy.

The programme is aimed at young people who are interested in starting a career within Liverpool city region's hospitality sector.

The visitor economy for the city region is worth £3.8b and supports more than 49,000 jobs, many of which are in hospitality.

Each internship lasts 10 weeks, with up to 12 students per intake engaging in a 24-hour per week programme.

This is the latest development for the Richmond hotel Liverpool after it recently agreed a new management contract with Know Hotels, part of the Know Collection.

The Know Collection consists of a number of Liverpool-based tourism and hospitality businesses including Know Hospitality, Know Property Services, and Know Hotels and Know Restaurants.

Steven Hesketh, managing director of the Know Collection, said: "The Know Hospitality Academy will play a vital role in our exciting plans for the future and development of the Know Collection brand, which also includes hotel, restaurant and facilities management, alongside hospitality consultancy.

He added: "Once students have graduated, our goal is for them to start an apprenticeship so they can embark on the next step in their hospitality career. We see this as a way of giving something back to the industry - we may just find the industry leaders of tomorrow."
