Le Chabanais closes after spilt with Paris team

Le Chabanais restaurant in Mayfair, which opened earlier this year, has closed following the split with Paris restaurant Le Chateaubriand.

Last month it was reported that chef Inaki Aizpitarte and his team from Le Chateaubriand split from the London restaurant - this has now been confirmed by the restaurant itself.

In August the restaurant closed due to a 'gas leak' and was expected to reopen after a few days, but has remained closed ever since.

The restaurant has now opened under new management with a new name - 8 Mount Street. It will see head chef Adrian Mellor present a more informal Mediterranean-led menu alongside an extensive wine list, including a wider choice of white Burgundy, natural wines and grower Champagnes.

Mellor replaces Paul Boudier, while Scott McCaig is the new general manager following the departure of Kevin Lansdown.

In a statement the restaurant said: "It is with regret that the owners of Le Chabanais restaurant, which opened earlier this year on London's Mount Street, can confirm that the partnership with Inaki Aizpitarte and his partners at Le Chateaubriand has sadly ended.

"The London team are extremely grateful for the support they have received, and are pleased to announce that on 1 September the restaurant will open under a new name and entirely new management."

Le Chabanais was conceived by Varun Talreja, a film producer, together with Aizpitarte and his partners Franck Audoux and Laurent Cabut. The new restaurant will be overseen by a group of investors.
