London's Watch House café launches Waffle On menu

The Watch House, the London Bermondsey coffee shop, is to team up with Maltby Street Market street food traders Waffle On to launch a waffle-focused menu.

Available at the Watch House seven days a week from 3 September, from 5pm until late, the Waffle On menu will offer buttermilk waffles with savoury toppings such as Asian-spiced, slow-roasted shredded duck with fragrant plum sauce, and Southern fried spicy buttermilk chicken with maple syrup butter; and sweet flavours such as Belgian chocolate sauce with meringue and vanilla cream.

Each month will see a new flavour added to the usual menu, using seasonal ingredients. Typical options will include the "all-day breakfast" with dry-cure crispy bacon and biodynamic egg; gravlax with cured Scottish salmon with beetroot and dill; and hot Morello cherries soaked in Kirschwasser.

There will also be coffee from East London coffee roasters Ozone, and new artworks on the walls from local Bermondsey artists Rich Hind and Robin Dunstton.

Situated in a 19th-century building, the Watch House opened last September after undergoing a renovation. It seeks to offer a "luxury coffee hub", develop links with local food suppliers and bring produce from Maltby Street into the space. It will continue to offer its usual menu of fresh sandwiches and cakes during the daytime (while Waffle On will also continue to sell waffles at the weekend market).

Waffle On was first launched at Dalston Roof Park in September 2012 by husband-and-wife team Eddie Ruffett and Bettina Frohn, and is now usually seen at Bermondsey-based Maltby Street market, which runs on Saturdays and Sundays. The waffles have also featured at Streetfeast, Kerb, Secret Garden Party and Camp Bestival.
