Michelin Guide 2016: Two new two stars; 15 new one stars
The Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2016 has announced 15 new one stars and two new two stars. There were no new three stars.
The new one stars include one for Leeds, with Michael O'Hare's the Man Behind the Curtain restaurant; OX in Belfast (which won the 2015 Menu of the Year Catey); Lyle's in Shoreditch; Bonhams in Mayfair; Portland in Regent's Park and Marylebone; and the Dining Room at the Goring hotel, Victoria.
There were also new stars for the John's House near Loughborough; the Cellar in Anstruther, Scotland; the Greenhouse in Dublin, and the Loam in Galway, Ireland; and Eipic in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The Guide2016 has been released today, available in book format, and via an iPhone app.
Editor of the UK guide Rebecca Burr commented: "The next generation of chefs are really coming through to give the established chefs a run for their money. They all have their own individual style and their ability - coupled with their confidence - looks set to lead them on to great things."
She added: "Each year we seek out new candidates and reassess our existing award restaurants. Consistency is a key part of our selection process and it is important for our readers that the standard of cooking is maintained."
This year compares well to the 2015 results, which saw no new two or three stars, and 14 new one stars.
