Zest Quest Asia calls for final entries to 2016 contest
Zest Quest Asia, the competition designed to recognise students' skills in cooking Asian cuisine overseen by chef Cyrus Todiwala, is calling for last entries.
The final deadline for submissions is 6 November 2015, with entry forms available at the Zest Quest Asia website. Only students who hold permanent residency in the UK are eligible to enter.
Following paper submissions, the cook-offs and the final gala dinner are to take place on 15 February 2016.
Previous winners include students from Westminster Kingsway College, and Farnborough College, who won ten-day gastronomic voyages in India and Sri Lanka, respectively, as part of their prize. The prize this year will be another trip to an Asian destination for the winning team and their tutor.
Confirmed sponsors for the 2016 contest, which is the third in the competition's history, are Panasonic, Tilda Rice, Regale Microwaves and Hilton London Heathrow T5.
The competition also has the support of the Professional Association for Catering Education (PACE) and HIT Scotland.
Todiwala, whose restaurants include Café Spice Namaste, the Park Café, and Mr Todiwala's Kitchen, launched the competition in 2013 in collaboration with the Master Chefs of Great Britain. It seeks to promote Asian cookery in home-grown chefs, and stimulate an interest in Asian cooking among chefs who may be more used to European cuisines.
Todiwala said, "I urge colleges up and down the UK to get their entries in now. So much research of late has shown that Asian food is more in demand than ever before and chefs who can demonstrate their ability to cook Asian food well, using flair and imagination, are at the cutting edge of global cuisine."
