Swinton Park appoints Nick Holmes as project consultant

Swinton Park hotel has appointed Nick Holmes as project consultant to deal with the development of the Country Club & Spa which is due to open in early 2016.

Holmes, the former managing director of Rockcliffe Hall, will consult on the £5.5m project at the four-red-AA-star, 31-bedroom property near Masham, North Yorkshire.

It will include an indoor swimming pool, full spa and fitness facilities. The spa and health club will be open to Swinton Park and Swinton Bivouac guests, treatment and spa day visitors and club members.

A native of the Wirral and a graduate of Sheffield Hallam, Holmes spent the early part of his career based in Scotland, initially at Gleneagles hotel. He then became general manager of Craigendarroch hotel in Ballater and went on to open Cameron House, Loch Lomond in 1989 as managing director.

He later became involved with the development and management of a number of independent golf and leisure clubs throughout the Midlands and South West, before returning to hotels to open Rockliffe Hall, County Durham in 2008 as managing director.

Since last year he has advised a number of UK resorts and golf destinations, specialising in spa, product integration, team and resort development with recent projects including Ramside Hall in Durham, Matfen Hall in Northumberland, Branston Golf & Country Club in the Midlands and Swinton Park in Masham.

Felicity Cunliffe-Lister, owner of Swinton Park, said: "Nick's background in resort hotels lends itself really well to the goals we have set ourselves at Swinton Park.

"The hotel offers so much more than accommodation, in terms of being part of the Swinton Estate and all the various activities and experiences we have on offer.

"Nick has an excellent understanding of how these elements can all be brought together, with particularly relevant focus on the launch of the spa and how this can be a catalyst for much of the development."

The development will include the restoration of traditional workshops and garden buildings adjacent to the Grade II-listed castle, along with the creation of a new wing within the walled garden.

There will also be a 40-seat conservatory restaurant, coffee shop and Swinton Estate shop.
