Hilton Worldwide set to increase its Cambridge presence

Hilton Worldwide is to open its first Hilton Hotels & Resorts property in Cambridge.

Once converted, the 198-bedroom Hilton Cambridge will become the second Hilton Worldwide brand to have a presence in the city, joining DoubleTree by Hilton Cambridge.

Hilton Cambridge will inherit the site of the Cambridge City hotel, which has undergone a major refurbishment ahead of its planned conversion in December.

The property is owned by CDL Hospitality Trusts, which completed the acquisition of the hotel on 1 October. It will continue to be operated and independently branded in the interim months, before the management agreement with Hilton Worldwide comes into force.

Rob Palleschi, global head, full service brands at Hilton Worldwide, said: "Hilton Cambridge represents our latest collaboration with CDL Group, joining hotels in Seoul, Bangkok and New York City.

"Having completed a substantial renovation programme, the hotel will be an elegant addition to Cambridge's city centre, and is a fitting property with which to mark both CDL Hospitality Trusts' entry into the European market, and our eponymous brand's debut in the city."

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, Europe & Africa at Hilton Worldwide, added: "Cambridge is an established tourist destination owing to its rich academic history, but in recent years it has also become a centre of economic growth, thanks in part to more than 1,500 technology, research and development companies based in the area. Having enjoyed great success pioneering the DoubleTree by Hilton brand in Cambridge, this hotel will extend our upscale offering in this thriving regional market."

The hotel will also include three food and beverage outlets, a gym, business centre and events space for up to 200 people.

Hilton Worldwide currently operates more than 120 hotels across the UK.
