Chefs Adopt a School celebrates Albert Roux's 80th birthday
Students at Westminster Kingsway College and St George's Primary School organised a special surprise for Albert Roux's 80th birthday yesterday (8 October).
The French-born restaurateur and chef opened Le Gavroche in London in 1967. It went on to become Britain's first Michelin-starred restaurant.
He has been a long-term supporter of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts' charity organisation Chefs Adopt a School.
The project sees professional chefs visit schools to conduct workshops and teach children about taste, the provenance of ingredients and the journey from farm to fork.
To celebrate Roux's birthday, the students of Westminster Kingsway College made a birthday cake which was presented to him at the college restaurant.
