Three British names in TripAdvisor's best world restaurants
Three British restaurants have been listed in TripAdvisor's top 10 best fine-dining restaurants in the world.
The 2015 TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice awards, from the US-based reviews website of the same name, listed Adam's in Birmingham, run by Adam and Natasha Stokes; Restaurant Sat Bains, run by the Nottingham-based chef; and Raymond Blanc's Belmond Le Manoir Aux Quat'Saisons in Oxfordshire, as fourth, fifth, and ninth in the world respectively.
Spanish restaurant Martin Bersategui, which is found in the north of Spain, won first place. Europea in Quebec, Canada, took second, while Maison Lameloise in France took the third spot. Also listed were Pic in France and Geranium in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The awards are compiled using TripAdvisor's algorithm methods, which consider the quality of current reviews available through its site for each establishment.
The review site also released a top 10 list of the best restaurants in the UK, which also included Simon Rogan's L'Enclume in Cumbria, Daniel Clifford's Midsummer House in Cambridge and the Roux family's Le Gavroche in London. Prison restaurant the Clink in Cardiff came in as tenth.
Commenting on the list, TripAdvisor spokesperson James Kay said: "With three UK restaurants among the world top 10, this year's awards prove that the UK does fine-dining as well as any other country in the world."
Although one of the most common review websites online, TripAdvisor is often seen as a controversial source of information about restaurants and attractions, with critics often saying it is vulnerable to false reviews and deliberately negative comments.
