Michael Voigt leaves the Arch London to join new luxury hotel

Michael Voigt has left his role as general manager of the five-AA-star, 82-bedroom Arch London to oversee the opening of a new luxury boutique hotel in Holborn.

He will launch the 40-bedroom L'Oscar hotel, in Southampton Row, in September 2016.

Owned by Triangle Hotels and Resorts, a division of investment and asset management group Triangle, the property is expected to be the first of several boutique hotels of the same name to open in key cities across Europe.

The London hotel, which is located within an Edwardian Baroque building, which was originally the headquarters of the Baptist Union, is being developed at a cost of around £40m.

Parisian interior designer Jacques Garcia is undertaking the transformation of the building, which is expected to feature "opulent and lavish" designs. Located at the heart of the hotel, the original domed Baptist chapel will house the restaurant and bar, where live cabaret will be performed alongside the service of food and drinks.

German-born Voigt spent just over two years at the Arch London, which he joined from Pennyhill Park, Bagshot, Surrey, where he was hotel manager. He has also previously worked in London at the Connaught, the Berkeley and One Aldwych. During London 2012, Voight ran the accommodation for 2,500 athletes in the Olympic village.

Since acquiring the former Baptist Union building in 2012, Triangle has gone on to buy the 3.3 acre Holborn Links Estate, on behalf of Perez International, for £212.5m. The estate includes the Travelodge hotel on High Holborn.

Voigt's replacement at the Arch London is Eva Mount (below), who joins the hotel from Firmdale Hotels' Dorset Square property, where she was general manager.
