Byron to open its first restaurant in Scotland

Burger restaurant group Byron is to open its first restaurant in Scotland, in Aberdeen's Union Square.

Byron has signed a deal with developer Hammerson to take a 3,751 sq ft site on the first floor of the centre, next to Handmade Burger Co. Other restaurants in the development, which opened in 2009, include Thaikhun, Giraffe, Cosmo and PizzaExpress.

Sarah Fox, head of restaurants and leisure at Hammerson, said: "We are delighted that Union Square will be welcoming Scotland's first Byron. The brand is a fantastic addition to the centre's diverse line-up of restaurants and is testament to the popularity of the centre's dining offer within the local community. By continuing to attract restaurants that provide our customers with new and exciting dining experiences we are reinforcing Union Square's position as Aberdeen's retail, catering and leisure destination."

Tom Byng, Byron's founder, added: "We couldn't be happier to be bringing proper hamburgers to Scotland. Over the years we've had more and more customers ask when we'll be opening here, so it's a real pleasure to finally be able to give them the answer they're looking for. We can't wait to welcome the people of Aberdeen to our first Scottish home in Union Square."
