Bromley College hosts Kitchen Impossible with Michel Roux Jr

Michel Roux Jr is to mentor out of work people with disabilities in catering for his new TV series Kitchen Impossible.

The four-part show, which will be airing on Channel 4 at 9pm tonight (Thursday 29 October), will see the chef put eight young out-of-work people with disabilities through an intensive four-week introduction to catering.

Episodes were filmed at the food and enterprise college within Bromley College's Orpington campus, which offers industry-standard training facilities.

Roux Jr will mentor the group to equip them with the basic skills for a job in the industry. The college's student-led restaurant BR6 also provided a suitable venue for the mentees to practice their skills.

Sam Grace, executive producer at Twofour, who produced the series, said: "Michel Roux Jr sets very high standards for his eight trainees, as he does everything he can to help them find work in the restaurant industry.

"Thanks to Michel and Bromley College, our trainees received the very highest standard of training that has fully prepared them for their future careers in hospitality and catering."

Bromley College launched its Hospitality, Food and Enterprise Career College for 14-19-year-olds in September 2014.

A range of employers, including the Hilton, Hyatt and Springboard groups, are involved with the design and delivery of the Career College's curriculum.

During filming of the new series in June 2015, seven of Bromley College's own students were treated to a jam-making masterclass by Michel Roux Jr.

Principal of Bromley College Sam Parrett said: "We were delighted to host the Kitchen Impossible with Michel Roux Jr production team at our Orpington campus. We are very proud of both our restaurant, BR6 and our Career College training facilities."

She added: "It was great to see the young people develop their skills over the time they were here and we are looking forward to watching the finished programme."
