Malmaison Leeds reveals £500,000 refurbishment

Malmaison Leeds has revealed a £500,000 refurbishment, which forms part of a wider multi-million pound investment in the Yorkshire region by Malmaison and Hotel du Vin.

The new look includes the renovation of the bar, brasserie and reception area in the converted Victorian office block property in the city's Swinegate area. The existing restaurant has been replaced with Malmaison's newly introduced Chez Mal bar and brasserie, which will offer guests a wider selection of cocktails and a new food menu.

Design features include low hanging bulbs, exposed brickwork, natural wood finishes and leather banquette seating. The hotel's lobby has been given a makeover with new marble flooring and the creation of two lounges.

Scott Harper, chief operating officer of Malmaison, told The Caterer: "We are also looking to start work on upgrading about 20% of the hotel's rooms to club rooms early next year. People like to see reinventions of old favourites but we have made sure we have also kept the DNA of Malmaison."

He added: "Malmaison is well known for its brasseries and bars and they are destination venues in their own right. We have a strong reputation within the market but there is so much choice available now, we felt the time was right to give it a new feel and make it current.

"You still know you're in a Mal with the dimmed lighting, candles and music and the quality of the food. There is a fine line between looking after people who have always supported the brand and keeping it fresh to appeal to new people."

The company plans to bring similar levels of investment to Malmaison's sister brand Hotel du Vin with its properties in York and Harrogate.

Paul Roberts, CEO, Malmaison Hotel du Vin, said: "We are hugely proud of what we have to offer those coming to Malmaison Leeds and excited about our multi-million pound refurbishment programme that will extend throughout our properties in Yorkshire. We have always been, and remain, big fans of the county."
