Front hall renovation of the Goring dents annual results

The closure of London's Goring hotel to allow for the refurbishment of its front hall prevented the property achieving a record-breaking performance last year.

Turnover at the five-red-AA-star, 69-bedroom hotel in Victoria declined by 1% to 83.6%, alongside a 1.8% drop in turnover to £11.5m, according to the property's latest financial statement for the year ended 31 March 2015 lodged at Companies House. Pre-tax profit declined nearly 50% to a loss of £591,211.

The £1m transformation of the front hall was the final element of a total renovation of the hotel, which played host to Kate Middleton and her family the night before the Royal Wedding in April 2011.

The directors' report also highlighted that the average number of staff at the Goring had increased from 162 to 172 - including the introduction of five footmen - during the past year, reflecting the property's "continued commitment to quality and service to its guests".
