The four biggest openings of the week
Bailey's Hotel
Bailey's Hotel in London has relaunched this month with a new look, following a £7.5m refurbishment. The new design aims to reflect the Bailey's origins as one of the first generation of purpose-built hotels in the capital. Founded by James Bailey, it opened in Kensington in 1876. The refurbishment has seen a total redesign of all guest rooms with new fixtures and fittings. The new look was inspired by digging into the archives of the hotel. There was an emphasis on working with UK-based suppliers to reinforce the English architecture and original fittings. From this came four design motifs that differentiate each floor. Each is informally named Kensington, Kew, Henley and City Gent. While there are distinct differences on each floor, some elements remain consistent throughout, such as the high and buttoned headboard, the joinery and carpets. Bathrooms have been refurbished with walk-in showers and the modern design harks back to the origins of the building with Victorian details and fittings from Mayfair manufacturer of taps, showers and bathrooms, Perrin & Rowe. The public spaces have a new, traditional-style parquet floor and hand-tufted rugs.
