Three UK hotels in Hyatt security breach

Hyatt Hotels has revealed its three UK properties were among those to have suffered a security breach involving the credit card details of a number of guests.

Hyatt Regency London - the Churchill (pictured), Andaz London Liverpool Street and Hyatt Regency Birmingham were all affected by the malware that was found on Hyatt's payment system last year.

The hotel chain has posted a global list of hotels that fell victim to the breach between 30 July and 8 December 2015. The list, which involves almost half of the company's properties worldwide, included properties in Canada, the US, Jordan, Chile and Indonesia.

Hyatt said it was offering one year's free protection to people who used their cards in one of the compromised hotels.

He said: "We worked quickly with leading third-party cyber security experts to resolve the issue and strengthen the security of our systems in order to help prevent this from happening in the future. We also notified law enforcement and the payment card networks. Please be assured that you can confidently use payment cards at Hyatt hotels worldwide.

"Most importantly, we encourage you to remain vigilant and to review your payment card account statements closely. You should report any unauthorised charges to your card issuer immediately."

The Chicago-based Hyatt group has 627 properties in its portfolio. It said 250 hotels, all of which it manages directly, had been infected.

Hyatt Hotels joins other hotel groups Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Hilton Worldwide and Mandarin Oriental, which were hit by hackers and malware last year.

Hyatt is due to open Hyatt Place London Heathrow Hayes in 2016.

Hyatt Hotels said the following UK hotels were affected by the security breach during the stated periods:

• Hyatt Regency Birmingham between 13 August 2015 and 14 October 2015
• Andaz London Liverpool Street between 13 August 2015 and 8 December 2015
• Hyatt Regency London - the Churchill between 13 August 2015 and 8 December 2015
